The Human Genetics department studied for years the resistance molecular mechanisms of cancer treatments, such as the NF-kappaB pathway, the MDR expression or the HER2 activity. Genomic and translational studies were also performed on breast cancers, glioma and multiple myeloma. These translational researches led in particular to a NF-kappaB inhibitor clinical study for glioma treatment. 

Since 2011, Human Genetics works on breast cancers in collaboration with the Medical Oncology department of Prof. G. Jerusalem at the Liège University Hospital. In this context, BRCA1 loss of function and its link with the clinic were explored, and more recently, several works were also performed on liquid biopsies and non-coding RNAs.

Besides, the Genomic Medicine Group develop and/or implement NGS-based procedures to efficiently identify genetic variants and implement those technologies for the diagnostic setting. Those procedures will also be applied in research setting to pursue the identification of genes and genomic variations at the origin of human diseases, variants associated disease evolution and treatment response.
